Etienne Charles joins us for a Listening Session in conjunction with his October 7 concert appearance with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble.
Trinidadian trumpeter and percussionist Etienne Charles stands at the vanguard of a new generation of Caribbean musicians with a fresh, broad-ranging artistic vision. He won the National Trumpet Competition in 2006 and has performed and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Monty Alexander, Marcus Roberts, Roberta Flack, and the Count Basie Orchestra, among others. NPR named Folklore, his second studio recording, one of the top ten jazz albums of 2009. His latest album, Kaiso, was released this summer.
CJE LISTENING SESSIONS
The Chicago Jazz Ensemble presents this free event as part of its signature series of
informal gatherings in which Artistic Director Dana Hall, jazz artists,
educators, and/or critics lead an interactive discussion around a
particular topic in jazz. Sessions often feature live music
demos, multi-media components, and music recordings.
