The Chicago Jazz Ensemble is proud to conduct the third annual Louis Armstrong Legacy Program and Celebration (LALPC). As in previous years, mentors from The CJE are dispatched regularly during the spring semester to several Chicago Public Schools to spread the art that is the music of Louis Armstrong. This year, the schools each receive arrangments of Armstrong's music tailored to the needs and strengths of the individual schools. At the end of the program, all of the schools are invited to showcase their burgeoning talent. We are pleased our participation has grown from eight to eleven Chicago Public Schools this year:
Edward Beasley Elementary Magnet Academic Center
Charles P Caldwell Academy of Math & Science ES
Arthur Dixon Elementary School
John M Harlan Community Academy High School
Percy L Julian High School
Lake View High School
Lincoln Park High School
Morgan Park High School
Northwest Middle School
Paul Robeson High School
Augustus H Burley Elementary School
This year's Celebration will occur at the Chicago Cultural Center May 6, 2010 and is free and open to the public. Our new venue gives us more space for our growing program. Jon Faddis himself will host the event and notable members from The CJE will help adjudicate. Get ready for a fun time with some great music!
The Louis Armstrong Legacy Program and Celebration is made possible by grants from the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, the Polk Bros Foundation, and the ASCAP Foundation.
